An investigation into occupational health and safety of scaffolding practices on construction sites in Malaysia

Purpose Statistics show that the construction sector has second-highest number of accident cases in Malaysia. A total 100, 000 workers suffer from work-related bad health each year. Scaffolding accidents are second cause on sites. Therefore, this present research provided answers to following questions: (1) what causes scaffolding and (2) possible measures reduce accidents? Design/methodology/approach The developed a questionnaire instrument included 24 21 remedial actions. was based cross-sectional survey administered 129 members organizations. Findings Data revealed scaffolding-related caused 70% deaths/injuries Furthermore, were mainly by lack guard rails scaffoldings, poor inspections, improper assembly, safety culture, attitudes towards safety, footing scaffoldings unsecured planking. To accidents, there must be lifeline scaffolding, proper guardrails assembling preventing access incomplete or defective scaffoldings. structured into six factors through factor analysis actions factors.
